The Cabinet Refacing Process

Cabinet refacing involves ordering brand new flat-panel doors (and gables, if needed) for your kitchen. A vinyl wrap or veneer is then applied to the cabinet exteriors, toe kicks, and edges of the cabinets. Finally, your new doors and handles are installed.

Cabinet refacing gives you the option of a few solid colours, and many wood veneers to simulate the appearance of oak, and other wood veneered cabinets. The products applied are typically vinyl (must be used on flat doors and gables) or thermofoil (for shaker profile doors).

The finish is extremely durable, likely more so than a painted finish (depending on the material ultimately chosen). However, this doesn’t quite have the luxurious look and feel of a painted finish and the core of the new door is usually a material like particle board or MDF.

Stage 1: Free Consult

Get started with a no-pressure virtual consultation. We’ll discuss your project goals, budget and material choices, and walk you through the renovation process. We’ll make sure we’re a great fit for your project before we move forward. If so, we’ll set up a second appointment for your quote presentation.

Stage 2: Free Consult

We’ll provide you with a fixed price quote for your project and answer any other questions you may have. If you’d like to proceed, then we’ll take a 30% deposit, and book the start date for your project. You’re ready to go!

The Remodel: Week 1

We get started on any demolition and your cabinet refacing.

The Remodel: Week 2

We’ll continue with the countertops, backsplash, plumbing, and fixtures. And when we’re done, we’ll open everything up for inspection via a deficiency walk through.

Cost

Cabinet refacing is similar in cost to refinishing, but there can be variations in cost depending on the door and material choice. It is one of the most cost-effective starting points for your kitchen remodel and is a little less invasive than refinishing, while giving you options like a wood laminate that you wouldn’t otherwise have with refinishing. As with refinishing, if your original kitchen layout is functional and your cabinets are in good condition, this is a great way to make your remodel budget go further.

Benefits

If you’re looking for a low-cost and low-hassle update, or you want the option to have a wood look (like oak, walnut or teak) for your cabinets, then refacing would be the best option.

For any solid colour we always recommend refinishing instead as it results in a much nicer aesthetic result. Again, speed and cost are the major advantages here.

You also have the option to add custom cabinetry to your existing kitchen and then have it refaced so that the kitchen looks like it was intentionally designed with your new cabinets included!
